A 60-Year Legacy of Healing and Hope
Our Mission
Our Philosophy
Recovery at SRH is not about control or compliance—it’s about empowerment, education, and connection.
Under the leadership of Dr. B.J. Davis, Psy.D., Executive Director, we embrace a modern clinical philosophy grounded in:
-
Evidence-Based Practice – integrating the best of psychology, neuroscience, and lived experience
-
Trauma-Informed Care – recognizing the roots of pain and promoting healing without shame
-
Client-Centered Treatment – aligning therapy with each person’s unique values and goals
-
Therapeutic Alliance – building genuine, trusting relationships between staff and clients
-
Recovery as Quality of Life – measuring success not just by abstinence, but by personal growth and fulfillment
“People aren’t powerless. When we believe in them—and teach them to believe in themselves—they create their own miracles.”
— Dr. B.J. Davis, Executive Director
Our Leadership
Dr. B.J. Davis, Psy.D.
Executive Director
Clinical psychologist, professor, and national speaker on addiction recovery and empowerment.
Dr. Davis has over two decades of experience in behavioral health, combining lived experience with academic expertise to reshape how recovery is understood and practiced.
Board of Directors
A dedicated group of professionals and community leaders committed to sustaining SRH’s mission and ensuring quality, accountability, and inclusivity in all programs.
Our Staff
Our counselors, clinicians, and support staff share one purpose—to walk alongside our residents through every step of recovery. Many are individuals in long-term recovery themselves, bringing empathy, insight, and authenticity to the work we do.
Our Programs
SRH operates two gender-specific residential programs:
-
Sacramento Recovery House – a 17-bed facility for men seeking structure, accountability, and renewal.
-
Gateway House for Women – an 18-bed program offering safety, healing, and empowerment in a home-like setting.
Each program combines clinical best practices with the strength of community living—helping residents build self-efficacy, restore relationships, and achieve lasting recovery.

Our Evolution
For six decades, Sacramento Recovery House has evolved alongside the science of recovery. What began as a 12-Step social-model home has grown into a modern behavioral health organization that integrates therapy, education, and family involvement while retaining the sense of home, connection, and community that has defined us since 1964.
Today, SRH stands as a bridge between the traditional values of recovery and the scientific understanding of human change.
Our Impact
- Over 10,000 lives transformed since 1964
- Over 4 million dollars in annual community service delivery
- Dozens of graduates each year achieving sustained recovery and family reunification
- Recognized partnerships with county, state, and community health organizations
Our Commitment
Every person deserves the chance to recover with dignity.
At Sacramento Recovery House, we meet people where they are—without judgment—and help them build the life they deserve.
“Recovery is the process of becoming who you were meant to be.”
